After a two year break, I am returning to social media.
One of the things that I have most loved about this newsletter is having the ability to connect with people around the things that I share. It has been great to be able to hear the way people connect with what I write. It has even been great to hear the things that I say that people don’t agree with. Either way, I have valued the conversation.
Over the last two years I have learned that social media is not required for connected conversation. In fact, in many ways the conversations I have offline are more robust than the ones I have online. The challenge is that we live in a world that is... scattered. We all find ourselves in different places and different times. There is a distance that has been created by the frequently asynchronous, 24 hour nature of our world. And in person conversations are no longer enough to maintain connection.
The challenge is keeping the best parts of social media and avoiding its pitfalls. I won’t claim that I have that all figured out. I DO think that I have a better idea of who I am than I did even two years ago, and I know that I value connection enough to want to try social media again.
I chose Instagram because I feel like it fits the best with what Combat Snuggles is all about.
So if you are on Instagram, I would love to connect with you. You can follow me at @combatsnuggles. And if you get a follow request from me, it is actually me. Not spam or anything. And we’ll see how this goes.
