At dinner every night, our family does what we call “high / lows.” We have heard other people refer to it as ups and downs or roses and thorns as well as other ways of describing the same process. We each take a turn talking about the best part of our day and the worst part of our day. It helps each of us understand some small part of what the other members of the family are going through - good and bad. I am convinced it is one of the things that has helped us have such a close family through a lot of adversity over the years.
It also creates all sorts of opportunities for hilarity.
Earlier this week Alex joined us for dinner. We were doing high / lows and it was Justin’s turn. He told us that his high was “right now” because he was “really enjoying this spaghetti.” He then said his low happened at school. I asked him what happened. “Well,” he said, “I got really really pissed off at PE today.”
